We are a friendly church family and enjoy welcoming new people and visitors. Whether you are a Christian or have never been to church before, you would be very welcome to join any of our services, activities or events.
If you have any questions or would like to find out more, please don’t hesitate to contact Jane or Caroline in the church office on 01228 515972 who will be very happy to help.
We are one Parish which meets in two locations, with three congregations on a Sunday.
Regular Sunday Services
We usually have three services on Sundays. Our normal pattern of services is:
9.45am St Peter’s, Kingmoor
10.30am St John’s, Houghton
4pm 4LIFE at St Peter’s
4LIFE is a relaxed and informal all age service
How to find us
If you are traveling from outside Carlisle, we can easily be reached by car – both our churches are located close to the M6 junction 44.
Parking
Both churches have a free car park available for you to use.
What should I expect?
Morning
Morning services are usually about 1 hour and 15 minutes long. You are very welcome to stay for refreshments after the service – we’d love to meet you. There will be some singing (usually a mixture of modern songs and traditional hymns), prayers, a Bible reading and a talk to help us think through the Bible reading (about twenty minutes). The Lord’s Supper is celebrated once a month, usually on the first Sunday.
Family-friendly
The children and babies stay in the service for the first twenty minutes and will then go to their own groups. We have lots of families and are used to noise – so don’t worry about needing to stay quiet! If you are visiting, the church warden will be happy to show you where the children’s groups meet and give you registration forms to complete. Your child’s safety is very important to us. All our leaders and helpers have up-to-date DBS checks.
Occasionally we have an all-age service where the children and young people stay in for the whole service, with activities for them to get involved with.
Afternoon
In the afternoon, the 4LIFE services last approx 1 hour. They are relaxed, informal and family friendly – an engaging twenty minute talk from the Bible, with drama, video clips, music and children’s activities. On alternate weeks there will be groups for the children and young people. On the other weeks, the services will be all-age with plenty for the little people to join in with! There will be food after the service, or as you arrive.
Will I be asked to do anything?
Feel free to join in with as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. You will not be expected to say or do anything in the service you don’t wish to.
Once a month, the morning service will include The Lord’s Supper. If you are a Christian, you are very welcome to take the bread and wine – you don’t have to be a member of the church. If you wouldn’t want to call yourself a Christian, you are welcome to come to the front for a prayer or remain seated if you feel more comfortable doing that.
Is there a dress code?
There is no dress code. Some people wear jeans while others dress more smartly in a shirt and tie – feel free to wear whatever you are most comfortable in!
